Things to know before applying for Student Visa in Australia

If you want to pursue your higher studies in Australia; you will have to obtain a student visa here. The government of this country has set up special laws for all the immigrants who come here to study. In order to get the student visa, you will have to show evidence to DIBP or Department of Immigration and Border Protection that you satisfy the below mentioned visa necessities:

GTE or Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement: This states that the candidate who is applying for visa should be able to provide honest evidences for staying in Australia on a temporary basis. The purposes can be for study, or to go with the student as a guardian or as a dependent. The authorized persons at the DIBP will take into consider the following things:

o Any other pertinent matters

o The prospect of the course that you have chosen to study

o The possible conditions for you in Australia

o Your immigration records

o The circumstances in your home country

To find out if you satisfy the GTE requirements, you will be asked to appear in an interview at the Australian embassy located nearby. You may be asked to complete a visa application form as well. This form needs to be filled online; where you will need to provide with the below mentioned evidences:

English proficiency requirements: This requirement is for all those students who are not from English speaking countries and also for those who have not completed a minimum of five years study in an English speaking country. You will have to appear for the tests like TOEFL, IELTS etc. to prove that you can speak the language as per the requirement.

Financial requirements: You will have to prove that you have enough funds to cover travel, living and tuition costs. The minimum living costs excluding the travel and tuition is set at AU$19,830 for a year. In case of dependents, you will also need to prove that you are capable of covering the expenses for them as well. On the other hand, you can also show proof that your parents or spouse are ready to assist you and that they get as a minimum AU$60,000 per annum.

Health requirements: Students who are coming to Australia for training as nurse, doctor or dentist will have to go through a radiological or a medical check-up to proove they are fit. In order to do so, you will need to seek an appointment with an Australian immigration department approved doctor. In addition, students except from Belgium and Norway need to buy OSHC or Overseas Student Health Cover.

Character requirements: This includes obtaining a penal clearance certificate, police statement and getting a criminal record check. You may also be asked to complete a Character Statutory Declaration Form.

Once you have submitted the visa application form, the process may take up to 1 months’ time to complete. Before you apply for Australian student visa online, you should ensure that all the above mentioned requirements are at place or else, there is a high chance of your application getting rejected.
